Some hell swell hit the south west corner of WA at the end of last week: 3-4m at an 18 second period = serious stuff. Margs Mainbreak was HUGE and clean on Thursday morning - it’s a shame most of us had to work…But usually when a groundswell like this reaches the south west corner of Oz, it splits - half the swell continues east to Tahiti and beyond while the other half smashes its way up the WA coast before touching down in Indonesia. If the winds are right, every wave between Perth and Exmouth lights up. I was stoked to be up north last weekend, in the right place at the right time when swell hit…
Pro boys Ry Craike, Kerby and Courtney Brown, Jay Davies and a couple of other hotrats towed into some big Indo-style barrels on Saturday morning. The long, hollow tubes were really only accessible with a whip in from a jet ski because they broke so quickly down the reef.
Sunday morning was picture perfect out at the point, 4-6 foot and kegging. It was Kerby Brown’s birthday bash the night before so the local rippers were looking a bit faulty when they paddled out mid morning. Ry and Kerby still dominated, getting some effortless tubes despite still being a teensy bit cannzed. Some amazing sea life came out to play too…
I’m heading up north again tomorrow for 10 days so ww emails may be a bit irregular over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully they’ll be worth the wait though! How buffed are the tropics in winter?!
Margs is looking a bit sketchy this coming weekend with strong W-SW winds forecast again but there will be plenty of swell around so guarans somewhere will be going off, get amongst it frothas!
