There have been some great waves hitting the SW coast of West Oz since we ticked over into 2008. Apparently New Year’s Day and 2 January were pumping down south. I missed it because of the Cuban Club, but it was on again last weekend too.
Margaret River Mainbreak started out a wobbly, solid 6-8 foot first thing on Sunday morning. After recovering from a bit of morning sickness a nearby beachie lit up, delivering some heavy barrels. There were plenty of snapped boards and bruised bodies as the Hawaiian style tubes exploded on the shallow sand banks.
Tom Innes was getting the best ones of the day, taking late drops and weaving through long tubes.
How’s this tube sequence?! Tinnes…deep.
Monday dished up another perfect morning at the beachie. It was as clean as a whistle first thing due to the strong SE wind which was blowing big pluming rooster tails off the backs of the waves. Solid A-frames were rearing up out of deep water before exploding on the shallow sandbanks and reeling down the beach.
The better surfers in the lineup calculated some memorable barrels but once again some savage beat downs were administered with more snapped boards washing up on the beach.
Dino Adrian was picking off some smokers. He plucked this screamer from outside…
Another beautiful summer weekend coming up…Strong SE/SSE winds are forecasted for Perth with lighter SE winds on the cards down south for both Saturday and Sunday. The swell will be small in the South West on Saturday, hovering around the 1.5m mark and building to 3m over Sunday. Hope you get some crackers.
Make it great in 2008!
