Autumn is a great time of year to be a surfer in Australia. It seems the entire coastline of our vast land pumps flat out from March to June. For the southwest corner of WA, the Anzac Day long weekend was no exception; Margs pumped for three days straight. Friday morning was a squeaky clean 8-10 foot at exposed reefs, a fitting tribute to our great Anzacs. The whole Margs coast was firing.

The swell backed off on Saturday morning, with clean 4-6 footers standard at Margs Mainbreak, groomed by a crisp ENE wind - epic conditions. Remember the friendly little beachie from last issue with the schools of salmon? Well, Saturday morning was a very different scene. The tranquil two footers from a couple of weeks back had transformed into thumping 6 foot widow-makers.

A short stretch of the beach was cooking with only a handful of local rippers taking it on, dodging bone breaking slabs and pulling into the roomy tubes. A couple of snapped boards punctuated the session as the boys threw themselves over the ledge.

Remnants of the swell hung around for Sunday morning, serving up some fun, clean surf at wave magnets.

Watch out for the 5-6m swell smashing WA today, it’s going to be rowdy.
