Ah Indo…warm water barrels, nasi gorengs and cold bintangs, too hard to resist when you’re shivering through an Oz winter.  Everyone knows the waves in the Indo archipelago are some of the best on the planet and Desert Point is arguably the fattest jewel in the crown.

If you’re lucky enough to snag a good one off the frothing Deserts pack, set up the barrel and pull in you will be the lucky recipient of one of the longest, most perfect left tubes on the planet.  The tube stays open and grows in size as it grinds down the point ultimately closing out on near dry reef.

Deserts is no secret though and was reportedly the most crowded wave in Indo last year. At the peak of the first swell there were 60-70 humans littered from the peak all the way down the point…plus there’s the crew of regulars who spend six months every year camped out back from the point and have the place wired.  They sit in a tight pack deep on the peak chatting amongst themselves, reminiscing of days of old, waiting patiently for that perfect wave.

Lombok is a beautiful island with heaps of relatively unexplored nooks and crannies and friendly local people.  Seek and ye shall find…
